The attenuator is located in the hook of BTE (Behind The Ear) hearing aids.
It mainly functions as an acoustic filter and shapes the frequency response, but also has the task of preventing moisture and earwax from entering the hearing aid.
If no sound comes out of the hearing aid or if the sound output has deteriorated, it may be due to a clogged attenuator that needs to be replaced
